Brigids aiming for League Sweep

Despite the Senior teams early exist from the Dublin Championship, there is a very healthy look about football down Russell Park way. As we reach the climax of the adult football league campaigns all 5 mens teams are in with a genuine shout of winning their respective leagues. The Seniors have got back to winning ways and lie 3rd in the table 7 points behind leaders Kilmacud.. Having only won SFL Div 1 title once before there should be enough in the tank to secure at least a playoff spot with a top 5 finish.

Intermediate footballers managed by Donegal men Phil Kelly and Seamus Bonner are through to the semi final of the Inter championship. They will play favourites  Parnells in early September and with the likes of Alan Daly, Shay Bonner, Brian Donovan , Dermot Cahill and Cormac Kelly have a formidable look. They currently sit 3rd in the league and can harbour ambitions too of a Top 5 and playoff finish also.

Further down the grades all 3Junior teams are fighting for honours and the first bit of silverware hit Russell Park last Saturday when the Junior 9 team managed by Chris Lynam and Keith O Neill won their league.

Junior One footballers, beaten county finalists last year, are still involved in 2 competitions despite losing out to Naomh Mearnog in championship quarter final replay last week.

They are through to the semi finals of the Conlon Cup where they will play Junior finalists Round Towers. They sit joint second of the Junior one league and with big games against Crokes and Towers they should at least secure a Top finish and if results go their way could claim Top spot.

The second Junior side who won the Junior 4 league and C championship double last year again have shown impressive form despite having losing some of their squad from last year.
Noel Cassidys men have won an impressive 11 out of 11 after a close fought victory over neighbours St Peregrines last weekend. With Whitehall Colmcilles also on twenty two points and the two still to play this game has all the hall marks of a classic with the winner taking all.. With the Hughes brothers Alan and Tony , Stephen Bonfield, Seamus Lynam, Stephen Cassidy and Willa Corbett showing excellent form, back to back league wins would represent some achievement for this very young side.

Last but by no means least is the Junior 9?s who only came together for the first team this year. Co-manged by Keith O?Neill and Chris Lynam, they clinched the Junior 9 league having won an impressive 10 out of 10. They also reached the final of the D Championship with a narrow victory over Fingal Ravens. With the experienced John Dunning, Ian Craven and Paul Brady leading the on field charges the side have a very balanced look.

It may not be the national headlines and Leinster titles of last year for the adult footballers of St Brigids , but anyone looking at Dublin League football tables will notice the ripple effects of last years great red and white success. With 4 of the 5 mens teams leading their respective leagues , Inters and Junior 9?s both in Championship shakeup the trophy room in Russell Park may not be as bare this year as many think.
