Inter Footballers make it 2 Senior Teams defeating St Pats - Match Report - Tue, 7 Feb 2006 St Brigid's: 0-14 St Pats (Palmerstown): 1-5
The intermediate footballers of St Brigid's added to their winning streak when they defeated St Pats by six points to claim their third title of the year which sees them move to senior football status. The Russell Park squad have already swept the board this year with Championship and Cup honours. The first half saw both teams play slow-moving and at times disjointed football. Brigid's were however the dominate side through-out both halves and were first on the score-sheet after eight minutes with a well taken point from Conor Ryan. A number of wides for both sides left just one between the teams until Liam Kane registered the second for the Dublin 15 men following a skilfully worked in ball from Craig Kilmurray. Pats registered their first score from their mid-fielder and corner forward Seamus Bonar replied quickly for Brigid's with his first score of the match. Anthony Briody, Liam Kane and Seamus Bonar added to their personal tally's before half-time to put three points between the sides on the short-whistle. Pats also managed to add two more to the score-sheet before half-time both from their half-forward. Brigid's lead reasonably comfortably at half-time on a score-line of 0-6 to 0-3. The second half proved a far more exciting contest as both sides increased the tempo of the game. Again Brigid's were first to the mark after the re-start with a superb point from dual-star Conor Ryan who dissected the uprights following a clever hand-pass from Bonar. John Quinn shone in defence for the Dublin 15 side and kept any threats from the Pats forwards under control. Craig Kilmurray added to the Brigid's score-sheet and with six points between the sides it looked as though Pats had fallen too far behind the Championship and Cup winners. However Pats staged a momentary come-back when their substitute pointed for the Palmerstown men and this was quickly followed up with a goal. However Pats purple patch was short lived as Brigid's dominance in all sectors of the field proved too much. Points from Bonar and an unstoppable close-range score from Craig Kilmurray gave Brigid's the assurance they needed nearing the end of the game. Lima Kane added to his tally and two superb scores from man of the match Anthony Briody sealed a deserved win for the intermediate footballers of St Brigid's. A point in injury time from Pats was too late as Brigid's secured their trio of victories for the 2005-2006 season.
