Clash of 2 Senior Teams in Champo 1st Round takes place in Russell Pk this Saturday - Wed, 19 Apr 2006
The draw for the Dublin Senior Football Championship threw up several interesting ties but none more than the tie of St Brigid's A versus St Brigid's B. The tie will be played in Russell Park this Saturday at 3.30pm. The first reaction was that St Brigids couldn't lose. With the new back door system being introduced on a two-year trail system, the losers of the tie will get a second chance. It is quite unusual for a club to have to two senior teams but even more unusual to have two Senior Football teams entered in the Senior Football Championship. Due to the Senior B team winning the Intermediate Championship in superb style last year adding to their Loving Cup Title & League Promotion, they had every right to enter the Senior Championship. It is the first time in the Championship's history that two teams from the same club have been pitted against each other.
The run-up to the tie will be very interesting around Russell Park with both Management Teams pitting their tactical skills against each other. Players will have to be put their friendships on hold for sixty minutes when both teams go in quest of the Holy Grail of Dublin Football. Both teams include several match winners and it should be quite funny who gets allotted the man-matching job on key players such as Kevin Bonnar, Anthony Briody and Declan Lally. Several brothers will be lining out against each such as Barry Cahill & Mark Cahill as well as Dermot Cahill & Dermot Cahill. It's definitely goes to interesting times in the Cahill households. The Majority of the players will have went to school together, travelled to Croke Park together and won Championship's together since the Under 10 grade. Best friends will end up marking each other. Everyone will know each other's game so well so were will the advantage will be gained? Maybe the tie might even take place in Russell Park to accommodate the massive interest that will be generated around the club. Here's looking forward to April 22nd in the Naul at 3.30pm when St Brigid's can't lose. |
