Junior C Footballers advance to Champo Quarter-Finals with Victory over St Vincents - Tue, 25 Jul 2006

Well done to the Junior C Footballers who defeated St Vincents to progress to the Championship Quarter-Finals. The lads done well considering they were down numerous players through injury & holidays but several players from the Junior D's stepped up to the plate to defeat a spirited St Vincents side. St Vincents provided stern resistance in the opening half but the superior fitness of players such as Keith Morris & Brian Kelvehan stood out in the second half. The lads played against a stiff breeze in the opening half but opened very well, leading 0-4 to 0-0 after 15 minutes. Gerry Bryne was causing havoc in the Vincents defence with his stealing runs through the heart of their defence. Vincents came back strongly towards the end of the second half to level up matters at the break.

But as the saying goes "Goals win games" was definitely the case. St Vincents lack of discipline cost them dearly in the second half. They had 2 players sent off as well as conciding two penalties for kamakizie challenges on goal bound players. Captain Ian Craven slotted home the first penalty with some aplomb. Neil Plunkett added another goal after some interplay between Andy Kavanagh & Enda Brady. Brady then found the net after Brian Kevlehan angled a ball to the on running Brady. Plunkett notched up his second goal when centre back John Dunning supplied Plunkett with a lovely ball through the centre. Keith Morris capped a fine performance when finding the net from the penalty spot after Neil Plunkett was taken down by the Vincents corner back.

The lads are on a real mission this year having fell at the last hurdle for the last two years. Keep up the good work lads.
