St Brigids 0-19 Na Fianna 2-6

A first half blitz in extra-time eventually put St Brigids in the comfort zone of this thrilling tie. Hitting 6 unaswered points in a ten minute spell left Na Fianna spell spound & the lads march on to the Quarter-Finals of the Championship. The lads led by six at half time on a scoreline of 0-10 to 0-4. Mark Cahill & Paddy Cahill the principle scorers in the first half along with a sublime point from Lorcan McCarhty.

The lads seemed to be heading for a easy victory but Na Fianna stormed back into the game with two quick fire goals. The first goal coming from a penalty & the second was a fine strike from distance leaving Alan Nolan with no chance. Na Fianna were in control & edged ahead by one point with ten minutes remaining but a fine point from Lorcan McCarthy levelled up matters with four minutes remaining. James Brogan scored what looked like the winning point deep in injury time but Na Fianna answered back with a superb point to bring the game into extra-time.

Na Fianna looked tired as extra-time opened & this was the case as St Brigids dominated proceedings. Na Fianna suffered another setback when Aidan Downes, their main play maker & ball centre at centre back got injured. Points from Andrews, Cahill & O'Connor gave Brigids a six point lead at half time of extra time. One more point was scored in the second peroid of extra-time. Na Fianna were held scoreless during extra-time. Chris Dorney & Tim O'Donnell turned in fine displays in the full back line along with Ciaran Plunkett at centre back. Cillin McCann & Colin Lynch drove forward at every chance from midfield. Well done to the lads & best of luck versus St Marys.
