Brigid's Draw Lucan in Westside Derby - Mon, 22 Mar 2004

the_cup.jpg (28467 bytes)

Dublin and Leinster champions St.Brigid's have drawn Lucan Sarsfields in this  year's Evening Herald Dublin SFC in what will be a tough west side local derby opener for the reigning Champs from Dublin 15 .

Lucan who also ply their trade in Division One are one of Dublin's fastest growing clubs and will be boosted by recent impressive Championship performances , most notably when they lost by a point to Na Fianna in the semi-final 2 years ago. With ex Dublin All Ireland winner Jack Sheedy calling the shots out Hermitage way and with Dublin seniors Mick and Paul Casey on board  this is a very tough opener for the Champs. Beaten 2003 finalists Kilmacud Crokes face St. Finian's (Swords) while Na Fianna face Erin's isle in another local Derby.

Two other eye catching fixtures are the Northside derbies of Ballymun Kickhams and St.Vincents who match up in the preliminary round while Naomh Mearnog meet their seaside neighbours from Malahide  St.Sylvesters in what promises to be another cracking tie.

St. Brigid's senior hurlers (beaten finalists last year) will also face a tough opener as they bid to go one step better this year and claim the Senior crown for the first time. They will play the winners of Kilmacud Crokes and Naomh Mearnog . For those still caught by the Cheltenham bug Paddy Power is quoting a Brigid's double at 50-1 with the footballers a surprising 3rd. favourite behind Na Fianna and Kilmacud at odds of 5/1 .
