Senior 2 Footballers Just Edged Out by Fingal Ravens in Champo Final - Sun, 9 Sep 2007

St Brigids 0-6 Fingal Ravens 0-7

Hard Luck to the Senior 2 Footballers who were just edged out by Fingal Ravens in their Championship decider in Parnell Pk. In a tight tussle from first whistle to last an excellent Ian Kavanagh point 30 metres out from the standside two minutes into added time proved crucial.

Playing with the advantage of the wind Ravens had made the better opening to the game but their accuracy in front of the posts left a lot to be desired as they led 0-3 to 0-0 after 24 minutes but had amassed seven wides also. The lively Niall Tormey was central to their best moves and he got two first half points - the validity of the second being challenged strongly by the Brigid's defence as the umpires took an age to make up their minds whether it was over or wide.

Before the interval points from the hard working Diarmuid Reidy and Seamus Bonner left the minimum in it, 0-3 to 0-2. For the first of these scores wing-back Craig Kilmurray broke forward to create the overlap while for the second Andy Farrell punished a misplaced Ravens free by launching a counter-attack which resulted in Bonner's score.

Points from Killian O'Dea (free) and a fine Liam Kane point edged Brigid's in front 0-4 to 0-3 by the 37th minute. Four minutes later the Ravens attacked combined well before Ciaran Norton was put through on goal, he looked to have been taken down in the act of shooting but referee Mick Bissett waved play on.

From then to the finish it was nip and tuck as Ian Kavanagh brought the sides level before a Warren Finnegan '45' had Brigid's ahead again. A Tormey '45' and controversial Padraig Brennan free saw the lead swing Ravens way before O'Dea brought equality as the game approached added time.

Ravens had the ball in the net but Keith Kavanagh was adjudged to have been in the square when he flicked Tormey's free to the net but the north county side had the final word with Ian Kavanagh's well judged winner from the right touchline.
