Junior A Footballers Stay in Promotion Race defeating St Annes in League - Tue, 11 Sep 2007

St Brigids 2-10 St Annes 1-07

Two stunning Liam Greening goals steered St Brigids AFL Division 5 footballer's to a six point victory over a stubborn St Anne's side on Sunday morning in Russell Park. Leading 0-6 points to 0-3 at the break following points from Dave O'Connor, Mark Kehir and Paul Witty, the Castleknock outfit soon doubled their lead earlier in the second half.

Following a long ball into a crowded square, it was Greening who pounced on the breaking ball, lashing home an unstoppable shot from ten yards. A spirited St Anne's side, who defeated league leaders St Sylvester's last week, refused to lie down and responded positively reducing the deficit to a single point.

However, the on-form Greening again stepped up to the mark on the 51st minute when, following good interplay between Dave O'Connor and Stephen Moore, he broke clear and steered his powerful shot into the top left hand corner of the net. Further points from Paul Witty and Joe Cassidy ensured that following the long 7 week summer break, the Saints got back to winning ways.

St Brigids: Tomas Connolly, Phil Kelly, Seamus Smyth, Brian Smyth, Cian O'Sullivan, Alan Hughes, Eoin O'Sullivan, Paul Greening, Kevin Bonfil, Liam Greening (2-0), Joe Cassidy (0-1), Mark Kehir (0-1), Dave O'Connor (0-4), Willa Corrbett, Paul Witty (0-4).

Subs: Colm Doyle for Mark Kehir (inj), Stephen Moore for Willa Corrbett, Dessie Carolan for Paul Greening, Kevin O'Donovan for Tomas Connolly (inj).

Half Time: St Brigids 0-6 St Anne's 0-3.
