Inter Footballers Edged Out in Last Kick of Game by St Monica's In League Clash - Tue, 23 Oct 2007

St Brigids 2-10 St Monicas 2-11

Hard luck to the Intermediate Footballers who were edged out by St Monica's in their top of the table clash. Both sides with their eyes firmly fixed on the league, a real battle was on the cards and we weren't let down. Monica's opened affairs with two quick points but the free taking of Mick Cousin soon had the lads of top. Further points from Ciaran Green & Tommy Hughes widened the gap to two points. Monica's replied with a Vinny Murphy free. Paul Brady then found the back of the net to put four between the sides. Two further points arrived via the boot of Calvin & Tommy Hughes. Monica's tagged on another point to leave five points between the sides at the break (1-5 to 0-4).

Monica's opened the 2nd half brightly cutting the deficit to two with 3 nicely taken points. Mick Cousin then pointed to leave three points between the sides with fifteen minutes remaining. Monica's then scored a goal to level up matter but another Mick Cousin free edged the lads another. Stephen Kelly scored what looked like the winning goal when he pounched onto a broken ball to fire to the net. Four points up with less than ten minutes remaining. Monica's straight from the resulting kick-out went straight the field and fired in another goal. Two more points from Vinny Murphy pushed them another entering the final minutes but up popped Cousin again to level up matters. Entering injury time, Monica's had one final chance and took it to land the spoils but the lads are still right there in the promotion play-off so keep the heads up.
