Adult Footballer John Paul Corkery Publishes Sam, Liam, Strikes and Schemozzles - Wed, 17 Sep 2008

How Well Do You Know Your GAA?

by J. P. Corkery & Ciaran Loughran.

Followers of the games of hurling, camogie, handball, Gaelic football and ladies football are renowned for their fanaticism and detailed knowledge of the sports. This engaging collection of 1,500 questions sets out to inform, entertain and test all GAA fans, taking the reader through the history of Gaelic games, the matches, the stars, the referees, GAA politicians, super subs, strikes and hurlers on the ditch.

The annual quest to win the Sam Maguire and Liam MacCarthy Cups inspires great action on GAA playing fields. Now that we are nearing the end of the competitions this year, it is time for a new challenge off the field.
  • Which substitute was about to be substituted by Clare in the 1995 All-Ireland hurling final, scored the winning goal, and was promptly taken off?
  • Which All-Ireland captain and manager were refused entry to the post-match celebrations in Croke Park because they did not have tickets, even though they had the Sam Maguire Cup with them as ID?
  • In 1998 Clare were leading Offaly by three points with two minutes remaining in the All-Ireland semi-final when the referee blew for full time. A replay was ordered, which Offaly won. Who was the referee?
This winning collection of 1,500 questions sets out to inform, entertain and test all GAA fans. Each round of questions covers a specific aspect of the GAA and the chapter order takes the reader through the history of Gaelic games, the matches, the stars, the referees, GAA politicians, super subs, strikes and hurlers on the ditch. Find out how much you really know about the who, when, why and where of the GAA.
