Inter 2 Footballers Narrowly Edge Out Inter 1 Footballers in League Clash - Fri, 10 Oct 2008

St Brigids (2) 1-8 St Brigids (1) 0-9

In what was the 4th meeting of our 2nd Intermediate teams in the past 18 months, it was Noel Cassidy's men who claimed club bragging rights over Violet Muldoon's side with a 1-08 to 0-9 point win in their AFL 4 League encounter in Russell Park.

It proved to be yet another exhilarating contest between the teams with Violet Muldoon?s men taking the early initiative. Points for Mick Cussen and Daniel O'Mahony saw them move into a 0-7 to 0-3 lead after 35 minutes. The harsh dismissal of Inter 2 full back Niall Ryan for a second yellow card offence looked to have settled the tie as a contest.

However, there proved to be another twist in the game as a fisted Willa Corbett goal and 2 points each from Paul Whitty and Paddy McAvenue gave the Inter 2's an unlikely 3 point advantage with the game entering its final moments. Despite some sustained later pressure, Noel Cassidy's men held out for a hard fought 2 point victory.

The result means that both sides are still in contention for promotion to AFL 3 with a handful of games remaining. Well done to both squads on their contribution to what is now an exciting annual club fixture. Keep up the hard work for the remainder of the season.
