Inter 2 Footballers Stay on Track for Promotion Play-Off with Victory over Fingallians - Tue, 21 Oct 2008

St Brigids 1-09 Fingallians 1-02

Our Intermediate 2 footballers kept themselves in contention for promotion to AFL 3 with a laboured win over Fingallians in Russell Park on Saturday evening. In what was an uncharacteristically poor first half, the lads were slow out of the blocks and trailed by 2 points at the break. However, a vastly improved second half performance saw the home side eventually dominate proceedings.

Spurred on by a Joe Cassidy goal just after half time, points from Paul Whitty (0-5), Colm Doyle (0-1) and Stephen Moore (0-1) cemented the home sides lead. The introduction of Allan Hughes, Mark Moore and Brian Smyth added further impetus to the Brigids attack as the heavy pitch began to take its toll. A solid defensive display, marshalled by the excellent Joe Twomey, kept Fingallians to a solitary point in the second half. Although the lads were not at their free flowing best, the result leaves Noel Cassidy's men sitting in 4th position with two games remaining, firmly in contention for a play-off place.

St Brigids: Kevin O'Donovan, Tony Hughes, Sé Smyth, Joe Twomey, Cian O'Sullivan (0-1) Cormac O'Sullivan, Stephen Moore (0-1), Kevin Bonfil, Dessie Carolan, Liam Greaney, Joe Cassidy (1-0), Mark Kehir, Willa Corrbett (0-1), Gordon Cribbons, Paul Whitty (0-5).

Subs: Colm Doyle (0-1) for Liam Greaney, Brian Smyth for Dessie Carolan, Mark Moore for Gordon Cribbons, Allan Hughes for Mark Kehir.
