Superb Second Half Fightback by Junior A Footballers against Erins Isle - Tue, 4 Nov 2008

St Brigids 1-10 Erins Isle 0-10

Trailing 0-7 to 0-3 at the break to Erin's Isle, the lads promotion chances were on the brink but they played superbly in the second half to out score their opponents 1-7 to 0-3. Isles decided to go the physical route in the second half which resulted in some very bad tackles especially centre back John Dunning who had to leave the field requiring sitches to his head.

Despite not playing in the first half, the lads were only four points down and they knew they were well capable of better football. With several positional & personel changes in the second half, the lads had Isles under severe pressure. Trailing 0-8 to 0-5 after five minutes of the half, the lads upped their game big game with two points from Conor Hayes & Alan Beirne. Hayes pointing a free after Alan Beirne was tackled boxing style to the head when clear through on goal. How did the man stay on?

Conor Hayes then found the net after some great interplay between Donal Fahy and Ian Craven. Isles responded with a Ciaran O'Hare. Some stout defending for the whole defence kept Isles a bay. The lads then suffered a body blow when John Dunning was taken out of the game with a desperate challenge for which the Isles player received his marching orders. While Dunning was down, the ref decided to inform Brigids that they were a point down. He had got the score wrong. He had put down a Brigids point as an Isles score.

Losing their captain was a big blow but being told they were trailing by a point with minutes to go wasn't the best tonic. The lads soon flew into action with Donal Fahy levelling the game (well, the refs score) and Conor Hayes firing over the winning point, the lads are still in the hunt for their fifth promotion in a row.
