Senior Footballers defeat Kilmacud to Stay on Course for League Semi-Finals - Mon, 17 Nov 2008

St Brigids 2-11 Kilmacud Crokes 1-10

Both sides were missing key players for very different reasons. Crokes rested several players due to their Leinster Championship Semi-Final & Brigids missing several due to Martin Cahill's wedding and several injuries. An entertaining game of football was served up under the lights in Russell Pk. John McGee was to the fore in the first half for Crokes as they played with a strong wind at their break in the first half. Brigids opened strongly scoring the first two points of the half but Crokes came back strongly with McBarron & McGee points before Barry O'Rourke scored a very well taken goal.

The lads weren't to be outdone as they soon replied with a goal of their goal. Declan Lally & Graham Norton moved the ball up with the field before Kevin Bonner finished to the net. Crokes replied promptly with five well taken points, all from distance as the wind blew stronger. Brigids replied with the key score of the game with half time nearing. Mark Cahill fired to the net as Brigids cut the Crokes defence wide open. It was a key score was it left two between the sides at the break, 1-7 to 2-2.

Crokes opened the scoring in the second half with a point. Brigids were finding it hard to judge the wing but Jason Ward proved the match winner with two well taken points and some brilliant fetching of the ball in midfield. It was becoming very hard for Crokes to move the ball out of the defence with the breezy conditions. Kick-outs were barely reaching the 45 yard line and Brigids soon put the game to bed with less than 10 minutes remaining. Paddy Andrews, Mark Cahill & Ken Darcy kicking points to leave the score 2-11 to 1-10.

The lads remain bang in contention to reach the League Title Semi-Finals as this win leaves them in 3rd place in the league with one game against St Marks remaining.
