Inter 2 Footballers Continue Quest for Promotion defeating Kilmacud Crokes - Tue, 29 Sep 2009

St Brigids 1-13 Kilmacud Crokes 0-7

Our Intermediate 2 footballers kept themselves firmly in contention for promotion to AFL 3 with a superb win over Kilmacud Crokes on Saturday evening in Silver Park. Tormentor-in-chief for the afternoon was Odhran McCann, who was starting his first game for over 9 months after recovering a long-term groin injury. McCann bagged 5 points from play over the course of the game and was supported in attack by the ever reliable Paul Whitty who poached a skilful 1-04.

Early points from full-forward James Campbell and roving midfielder Dessie Carolan had given the Russell Park men an early lead with Eoin O?Brien adding to the tally before half-time. McCann stretched the Brigids lead early in the second half from 0-09 to 0-05 and when Whitty goaled after a Dessie Carolan effort cannoned back off the post, the game was settled as a contest.

The game also saw two other long-term injury victims make their comeback, with Brian Lane and Gerry Hughes both back in Brigid?s colours for the first time in 2009. Well done to the lads who now face Erin?s Isle in their final league game next Saturday evening in Finglas at 6 p.m.
