Inter Footballers Remain on Course for Play-Offs defeating St Finians Newcastle - Mon, 12 Jul 2010

An inspirational 1-01 from midfielder Dessie Carolan saw our Inter footballers return to winning ways in AFL 4 as they defeated St Finians (N) 2-09 to 1-04 in Rathcoole on Saturday evening. Carolan was to the forefront of everything positive Brigids did in the opening minutes and after bursting through two tackles he angled a majestic shot into the top right-hand corner to give the away side an early 1-01 to 0-01 advantage.

Finians responded and with the wind at their back they soon drew level with a goal of their own. Mick Gahan and Joe Cassidy edged the Russell Park men back in front before veteran club goalkeeper Colm Boyle ensured Brigids led at the break with a superb diving reflex save.

With the wind at their backs in the second half, Cassidy?s men let the ball do the work and with Mark Kehir (0-02), Ciaran Greene (0-01) and centre-back Joe Toomey (0-01) all on target the Castleknock men soon opened a six point lead. Mick Gahan was left with the simplest of goal chances on the 50th minute after Mark Kehir and Colm Doyle had thorn the Finians defence apart. Gahan obliged and in doing so, sealed a hard-fought Brigids win.

Well done to Noel, Dave, Greener and the lads who face Erins Isle on July 16th in their next league game.
