Kevin Bonner Has Great Game in Dubs National League Draw with Monaghan - Mon, 24 Mar 2008

Well done to Kevin Bonner who turned in a great performance for the Dubs versus Monaghan in their National League game in Parnell Pk. Keep up the good work

Dublin 1-10 Monaghan 0-13

Four pointed frees inside the last five minutes plus added time saw Monaghan snatch a dram in this NFL Division 2 encounter at Parnell Park on Sunday afternoon.

Dublin trailed by three points at the break, 0-3 to 0-6, after playing into the wind and lost Mark Vaughan to a second yellow card four minutes into the second half. However, after falling further behind through a Paul Finlay free and point from play from Stephen Gollogly - Monaghan's only score from play - Dublin raised their game massively to kick 1-5 without reply in a dominant 15 minute spell.

Paul Flynn showed terrific athleticism to win the original ball and then get forward to take a lay-off from Jason Sherlock before firing to the net with his left foot from 14 metres. With Dublin then playing more direct and with Shane Ryan on top at midfield they began to outmanoeuvre the Monaghan defence with Conal Keaney in particular showing good accuracy from long range.

But the Dubs should have added a second goal when Bernard Brogan unwisely elected to try and play in the lively Jason Sherlock when the Oliver Plunkett's man had the goal at his mercy in the 52nd minute. But points from Keaney from 45 metres, a Bernard Brogan free and right-footed effort from Keaney pushed Dublin 1-8 to 0-8 clear.

With five minutes of normal time remaining Dublin were four clear, 1-10 to 0-9, but Monaghan kept at it and were presented with some scoreable frees which Tommy Freeman and Finlay converted, his final one four minutes into added time, to keep the Farney County on top of the table on scoring difference.

Dublin finished the game with 13 men after Bryan Cullen was also sent off after a second yellow card offence.
