Senior 2 Footballers Come Back from Dead to Beat Ballinteer St Johns - Thu, 27 Aug 2009

St Brigids 1-17 Ballinteer St Johns 3-09

Our Senior 2 footballers produced a miraculous second half recovery on Sunday morning as they battled back from 11 points down at half time to beat Ballinteer St Johns in their AFL 2 encounter in Russell Park. After a fantastic season, the lads were uncharacteristically out of sorts in the first period and with former Dublin footballer Johnny McNally in full flow, the away side raced into a 3-07 to 0-05 half time lead.

However, Mark Byrne's men returned to the pitch a new side after the interval and slowly set about dismantling the Ballinteer lead. Excellent scores from Daire Plunkett, Dermot Reidy and Craig Kilmurray saw the Ballinteer lead evaporate to four points with just over 10 minutes remaining. Although McNally briefly halted the Brigids revival with a ?45, Brigids continued to attack in waves and were rewarded when Peter Blessington was hauled down when through on goal. Midfielder Kenny Kilmurray expertly dispatched the resultant penalty to draw the sides  level, before the young former minor, Daire Plunkett sealed a memorable Brigids victory.

St Brigids: W. Burke, T. O'Donnell, E. Lynch, C. O'Sullivan, N. Brady, F. Condron, C. Ryan, C. Kelly, K. Kilmurray (1-7), D. Reidy (0-1), P. Blessington, C. Kilmurray (0-1), D. O'Connor (0-1), A. Farrell (0-1), D. Plunkett (0-6).

Subs: Brian McIntyre for Andy Farrell (inj).
