Senior Footballers Suffer Heart Breaking Injury Time Champo Defeat to St Judes - Sat, 5 Sep 2009
St Judes 2-13 St Brigids 2-12 A Shane Gallagher point in the second minute of added time saw Judes take the scalp of their Russell Park opponents in this thrilling Evening Herald Dublin SFC fourth round clash at Parnell Park on Thursday night. Judes, who had created the greater scoring opportunities throughout the action-packed 60 minutes, looked like it could be a frustrating night when Mark Cahill converted a 57th minute free to edge Brigids 2-12 to 2-11 in front. But Judes showed great resolve to battle back with Andy Glover kicking the equalising point as the game ticked into injury time before Gallagher shot the winner to earn a quarter-final berth for the Tymon North outfit. The game was played at a good tempo with Judes opening up the Brigids defence in the fourth minute with a clever diagonal ball which Declan Donnelly won before releasing wing-forward Ronan Joyce and he gave former Ipswich Town netminder, Shane Supple, no chance from close range. With Brenan McManamon particularly influential the Judes attack moved with great understanding and they led 1-6 to 0-5 after 25 minutes ? it should have been more but some wayward shooting and failure to capitalise on goal-scoring situations let them down. However, Brigids got the perfect fillip before the interval when Paddy Andrews found the net from ten metres and then combined with Kevin Bonner for the equaliser. 1-6 each at the break. Points from Joey Donnelly and Kevin McManamon got Judes up and running in the second half before Brigids got level through Gavin McIntyre and Paddy Andrews. In the 39th minute Kevin McManamom hit Judes second goal as they utilised the extra man with Peadar Andrews out of action after suffering a knee injury and getting attended to on the pitch. Six minutes later Brigids struck back with their second goal when Mark Cahill, Dabhach Dineen and McIntyre combined to telling effect. Typical of this clash the pendulum then swung back the other way when match-winner Gallagher and Brendan McManamon pointed in quick succession to lead 2-11 to 2-10. The following two scores from Bonner and Mark Cahill (free) saw Brigids regain the lead but Judes had the final say with those two late points.
