Inter 2 Footballers Secure Promotion Play Off Spot defeating Erins Isle - Tue, 6 Oct 2009

Erins Isle 0-08 St Brigids 2-14

Our Intermediate 2 footballers booked their spot in the AFL 4 promotion play-offs for the second year in succession with a comprehensive victory over Erin's Isles in Finglas on Saturday evening. Despite making a slow start, Noel Cassidy's men soon accelerated through the gears to lead 1-05 to 0-06 at half time, with Odhran McCann (1-01) Eoin O Brien (0-01) and Paul Whitty (0-03) all on target. As has been the case all season, the Brigids back-line were once again in outstanding form.

Over the course of their 15 league games they have conceded a total of 108 points, an average 0-07 per game which stands up as one of the best defensive records in the county. With such a solid base to build on, the forwards continued to flourish with the "Fox in the box" Paul Whitty (0-04), Eoin O Brien and midfielder Dessie Carolan (0-02) all adding to the Brigids tally. Brigids power-house centre-back Se Smith(above) sealed victory when he scored his first ever goal in the famous red and white, after his long range effort sailed into the top corner. Well done to the lads on another fine league campaign and best of luck in the play-offs. Click onto the website for details of opposition, dates and venues.
