Inter 1 Footballers Win 2nd Game on Trot Beating St Finians of Newcastle - Tue, 6 Oct 2009

St Brigids 3-7 St Finians 1-10

Our Intermediate 1 footballers recorded their second league win on the bounce as they defeated St Finians of Newcastle on a score-line of 3-07 to 1-10 on Saturday evening in Russell Park. In the midst of a relegation dogfight, the lads got off to a dream start with 3 goals inside the first 10 minutes from Cormac O Meara & Johnny Dalton (X2).

However, Finians inevitably worked their way back into the game and by half time had reduced the deficit to a mere 5 points. The Newcastle men kept up the pressure after the break and despite the superb efforts of Joey Johnson and man of the match Eoin Thyne, they drew level with just under 10 minutes remaining. Undeterred, veteran midfielder Dermot Kehily(above in red) rolled back the years as his display of fine fielding supplied Mulgrew, Dalton & O'Meara who combined excellently to seal victory with the final 3 points of the game

Well done to the lads who now face Lucan in their final league game, knowing that a win will give them an outside chance of avoiding the relegation play-offs.
