Inter 2 Footballers Seal Promotion Final Showdown with Late Surge Against Judes - Tue, 1 Dec 2009

St Brigids Intermediate 2 footballers are one step away from the promised land of AFL 3 football after defeating St Judes by a solitary point in their promotion play-off semi-final on Sunday morning in Russell Park. Playing against a gale force wind and driving rain, the home side were forced to play a short ball game in the opening period. Despite the artic conditions both sides produced some excellent football, with Gordon Cribbon (0-01) and Paul Whitty (0-02) leading the way in front of goal for the Castleknock men.

However, Judes eventually made their wind advantage count and 3 unanswered points saw the Tymon North men edge into a 0-06 to 0-03 half-time lead. The second half followed much the same pattern as the first, with both sides trading two points apiece. As the rain continued to pour down and with a little over 10 minutes remaining, the away side edged themselves further in front following a well worked team score. However, as they have done so often this season, Noel Cassidy?s men produced a superb final 10 minutes to turn a potential defeat in victory.

The all important goal came from the boot of midfielder Dessie Carolan, who angled a low shot to the net following a long Colm Doyle pass. Substitute Doyle continued to impact on proceedings and when Odhran McCann was hauled down when through on goal, it was left to Doyle to seal Brigids passage through to the AFL 3 Promotion Final.
