Inter 2 Footballers Suffer Promotion Final HeartBreak Against St Sylvesters - Tue, 8 Dec 2009
St Brigids 0-8 St Sylvesters 0-10
Our Intermediate 2 footballers suffered promotion heartbreak on Sunday morning, as they went down to St Sylvester's on a score line of 0-10 to 0-08 in Russell Park. It was a hard defeat to take for the men in red as they led the game from the second minute until the 53rd minute only to see the men from Malahide score 3 points in the final 7 minutes to snatch victory. Playing into the Navan Road End in the opening half, the home side had the wind behind them and early scores from Odhran McCann (0-02), Paul Whitty (0-2) and Colm Doyle (0-02) saw them led 0-06 to 0-04 at the break. The introduction of Paddy McAvenue (0-01) saw the Castleknock men continue where they left off in the first half, as his pointed solo run combined with another Whitty free left a point between the sides with the game entering the final 10 minutes. However, Sylvester's eventually made their wind advantage count as two fine long range frees saw them edge in front for the first time. Despite further Brigids pressure, the Malahide men sealed victory in the final minute with another score from distance. Congrats to Sylvester's who will no doubt acquit themselves well in AFL 3 in 2010. The sides have had some titanic battles over the past 3 seasons and have remained almost inseparable. Hard luck to Noel, Al Greene, Damo Butler, Paddy Duffy and the lads whose tremendous league campaign of 13 wins from 16 games just fell short at the final hurdle. The lads have a well earned break to look forward to before returning in late January to begin their quest for AFL 4 glory once again. St Brigids: Stephen Moore, Tony Hughes, Niall Ryan, Ryan McAnerin, Cian O'Sullivan, Allan Hughes, Se Smith, Kevin Bonfil, Dessie Carolan, David Buckley, Joe Cassidy, Joe Twomey, Paul Whitty (0-03), Odhran McCann (0-02), Colm Doyle (0-02). Subs: Paddy McAvenue (0-01) for Joe Twomey, Gordon Cribbon for Ryan McAnerin, Mossie Curran for Colm Doyle, Mark Kehir for Se Smith |
