Our Intermediate footballers maintained their 100 per cent start to the season with a hard fought 1-06 to 0-06 win over St Judes on Sunday morning in Russell Park. In what was a physical encounter with scoring opportunities at a premium, a first half Mick Gahan goal proved to be the decisive score.

Gahan's goal came midway through the first half when a high ball into the square was broken down by Eoin O Brien for Gahan who expertly rifled the ball into the roof of the net. The goal gave the home side a lead they would not relinquish and second half scores from Paddy McAvenue (0-02) and Joe Cassidy sealed victory for Noel Cassidy's men.

Any potential Judes revival was prevented by the excellent defensive unit of Colm Boyle, Joe Twomey and the Hughes brothers who restricted Judes to just two points in the second half. Well done to the lads who go onto face Garda this Saturday at 5pm in Westmanstown in the Loving Cup.

St Brigids: Colm Boyle, Tony Hughes, Joe Twomey, Gerry Hughes, Phil Kelly, Cian O Sullivan, Ciaran Greene, Kevin Bonfil, Gordon Cribbon, Mick Gahan (1-03), Joe Cassidy (0-01), Mark Kehir, Eoin O Brien, Paddy McAvenue (0-02), Kevin O Donovan.

Subs: Paul Whitty for Kevin O Donovan, Colm Doyle for Eoin O Brien, David Buckley for Mark Kehir, Se Smith for Joe Twomey, Neil Brady for Joe Cassidy. .
