Inter Footballers Reach Champo Q-Finals defeating Cuala in Hyde Pk Tussle - Mon, 26 Apr 2010
St Brigids 3-13 Cuala 0-6 Our Inter footballers saw off a spirited Cuala challenge in the last 16 of the Junior Football Championship on Sunday morning to advance to a quarter final meeting against Parnells. Noel Cassidy's team led from the first minute until the last, with first half points from Paul Whitty, Colm Doyle and Cian O'Sullivan giving the lads a 0-06 to 0-01 half time advantage. The two sides traded points early in the second half with Mick Gahan and Gordon Cribbon on target for the Russell Park men. Cuala's purple patch then arrived and three unanswered points saw them close the gap to 3 with 15 minutes remaining. However, Brigids greater hunger and endeavour was clear to see, with the impact of Neil Brady and Eoin O Brien particularly influential. Moments after his introduction, Brady found Cormac O Meara with an angled pass leaving the young corner forward to blast the ball to the net. O'Meara claimed his second goal moments later when he pounced on a lose ball in the Cuala square. Two sublime Eoin O Brien points and a clinical Brady goal late on sealed victory for the Brigids men. The lads now face a very strong Parnell's side in the last 8, with the game provisionally fixed for either the 12th or 13th of May. St Brigids: S. Moore, T. Hughes, S. Smith, G. Hughes, C. O Sullivan (0-01), A. Hughes, J. Toomey, K. Bonfil, G. Cribbon (0-02), D. Buckley, J. Cassidy, M. Gahan (0-03), P. Whitty (0-03), C. Doyle (0-01), C. O Meara (2-0). Subs: C. Greene (0-01) for J.
