An injury time free from Mark Cahill saw Brigids capture victory in this Evening Herald Dublin SFC first round tie at Parnell Park on Wednesday night. Ballymun led by a point, 0-14 to 2-7, inside the concluding five minutes but three Cahill frees, all following fouls on Paddy Andrews proved crucial for the Russell Park side.

The Mun had begun the game by far the more impressive side and opened up a 0-6 to 0-1 lead inside the opening 16 minutes with Dean Rock, Alan Hubbard, Kevin Leahy and Derek Byrne all on target as their attack moved with intent. They almost had a goal in the 16th minute but Shane Supple acrobatically denied Derek Byrne from close range. But then Brigids began to battle back with Route One ball on top of full-forward Ken Darcy paying richly.

Goals in the 25th amdn 28th minute saw Brigids lead 2-5 to 0-8 at the interval. The first goal came from Barry Cahill while Paddy Andrews steered the second to the net after Darcy had broken the ball down to him from a David OConnor delivery. Within ten minutes of the restart the Mun were level with points from Leahy, sub Ted Furman and Derek Byrne but Brigids came strong from the three-quarter stage on with Barry Cahill growing in influence and Andrews winning possession from which Mark Cahill slotted the winning scores.
