Doyle & Whitty Fire Inter Footballers Into Junior Final After Extra Time - Mon, 30 Aug 2010

St Brigids 1-15 St Monica's 0-16

Paul Whitty & Colm Doyle fired St Brigids Inter Footballers into the Junior Championship Final in a cracking game. Trailing 0-7 to 0-2 at the break, things looked bleak as St Monica's carried a serious attacking threat through out the whole first half. Our lads were lucky to have Kev Donovan is such cracking form as he made 2 point blank saves to keep the game in the melting point.

Monica's soon led 0-9 to 0-2 but Noel Cassidy made several changes that changed the game. The introduction of Des Carolan & Stephen Moore into midfield had a big impact as Carolan drove forward to score his sides opening point of the half but he had provided a great platform around the middle.

At the back, Se Smith must of thought he was in Coppers with the amount of pulling & dragging between himself and Vinny Murphy. Brian Smyth had a tremendous game on Monica's dangerman Kelly who was on the Dublin Senior Development Squad this year.

The 2nd half really turned on Paul Whitty's goal finish which brought the game right into the melting point. 2 more Colm Doyle point from outrageous angles soon had the game level. The lads tails were up as they entered extra time. Monica's weren't able for our forwards running game as Mark Kehir drove forward with the ball. Whitty & Doyle added points to leave one between them at the break and Whitty sealed the game in the final minute of extra time with a cultured left foot drive from 20 yards out.

More detailed report to follow.
