Nolan Double sees Junior B Footballers Power Past Plunketts in League - Mon, 16 Jul 2012
St Brigids 2-17 St Oliver Plunketts 2-3 Despite trailing 2-2 to 0-7 at half time, our Junior B Footballers had no need to panic. They large dominated the contest but some unusually sloppy defending resulted in 2 goals for Plunketts. Plunketts opened the game brightly and goaled within 5 minutes but the lads fought back very well with 4 quick fire points from Alan Nolan, Derm Reidy(2) & Daire Plunkett to be ahead on 15 minutes. Plunketts soon drew level with a pointed free. The lads continued to drive forward exerting a strong influence on proceedings. The half back line of Conor Morris, John Dunning & Kevin Brennan were providing ample ball for the half forward. Bren Dunning(below) was picking up alot of ball around the middle and took a big hit which resulted in a pointed free from Reidy. Nolan added a further point to make it 0-6 to 1-1 after 20 minutes. Willie Tyrell & John Smyth were marking very well in defence. Plunketts weren't giving up and drove forward with 5 minutes remaining in the half and a high ball somehow found its way to the net after a mix-up. The lads weren't to be detered as Fergal Counihan levelled up matters. Plunketts had the last say to lead 2-2 to 0-7 at the break.
The second half was a totally different encounter as the lads had their shooting boots on. Within 5 minutes of the restart, the lads had registered 1-3 without reply with Alan Nolan(top) dummying before driving the ball to the net. The points began to rain over as the confidence in the team began to filter around. It was definitely the lads day when Conor Morris pointed; this doesn't happen too much at all. A moment of magic created the 2nd goal. Alan Nolan scoring but the ball through from Keith Morris was brilliant. Morris catching the kickout before playing the ball soccer style to Nolan who Messi Style finished to the right corner. A good win for the lads. They remain in promotion contention with plenty games remaining. Two important wins over the last week considering they were missing so many lads. It was great to see Alan Nolan & Daire Plunkett getting some valuable game time under their belts since their return from the Dublin Senior Hurlers |
