New Hurling Regulations to take effect in January 2005 - Thu, 23 Dec 2004

 

The following regulations will be introduced nationwide with effect from 1st January 2005.

1. Any player who is 18 years or under - i.e. eligible for Minor grade - shall be obliged to wear an approved helmet in all games.

2. Where sliotars are being used in training for such teams, the mandatory use of helmets for all players to apply.

3. The only helmets that will be approved - and/or licensed by the G.A.A. - are those that have been approved by a European notified body i.e. have what's known as a CE mark.

4. Players shall not be permitted to "doctor" approved helmets in any way e.g. remove bars from the face protection.

5. All helmet suppliers will be expected to indemnify the G.A.A. from a product liability point of view if their helmets are to be approved and/or licensed by the G.A.A.

6. All players are advised to wear helmets - in particular Minor players taking part in adult Hurling competitions.

7. Players should only wear approved/licensed helmets regardless of whether they are under or over the age of 18.

8. All units are reminded that these regulations come into operation from 1 January 2005.
