Junior B Hurlers Open Champo Campaign With Hard Fought Win Over St Kevins - Mon, 19 May 2008

St. Brigids 1-11 St Kevins 0-11

In a closely contested championship hurling game Brigids prevailed but were made work all the way to the end by a well-coached Kevins team. In the early stages it was all Kevins who raced ahead to lead 0-4. However Brigids responded well with a goal from Dillion Casey. Kevins played with the aid of a strong breeze and had our backs under extreme pressure. Tim O Leary was on hand however on a number of occasions to make some super saves. Brigids had further scores in the first half from Séamus Lynam, Noel Kidd and three Brendan Roche frees to leave just 2 points in it 0-10 to 1-5.

After the break Brigids dominated for the first ten minutes but hit a lot of wides and it took a well taken score from Séamus Lynam to cut the gap to a point following hard work from Odhran McCann. Throughout this period Dec Cahill and Odhran McCann worked very hard in the middle. A Brendan Roche free levelled the game up but from here Kevins took the lead again. Brian Mulcahy landed two 70s and further scores were added by Séamus Lynam and Brendan Roche to leave the final score 1-11 to 0-11. Right until the end the Kevins lads kept pilling on the pressure but the Brigids defence stood tall with Mark Kehir and Willa Corbett cleaning up great ball. Whilst Fearghal Philips and Paul "Charlie" Carter using their strength on a number of occasions when it was needed badly.

St Brigids: Tim O Leary, Paul Carter, Fearghal Philips, Paul McCauley, Mark Kehir, Brian Mulcahy (0-2 2fs), Willa Corbett, Dec Cahill, Odhran McCann, Neill Plunkett, Séamus Lynam (0-3), Brendan Roche (0-5 5fs), Brian Condron, Noel Kidd (0-1), Dillion Casey (1-0).

Subs: Cian O Sullivan for Paul McCauley, Cillin McCann for Brian Condron and Keith O Neill for Noel Kidd.
