Things looked grim for our Junior Hurlers with ten minutes gone. Playing with the wind they were scoreless after ten minutes with St Sylvesters leading 1-2 to 0-0. The lads were very slow to get going and St Sylvesters physical approach around the middle was causing some problem but centre back Mick Cousin soon settled the team down with some briliant touches.Cousin soon began finding his range with some fine long range passes into the full forward line of Pat Rohan, Sean Duignan and Paul Keane.

Keane opened his account with a long range free. The lads were beginning to find their feet as Mick Galvin & Conor Morris were winning the midfield battle. Duignan was causing all sorts of problems when the high ball went in around the sqaure. Two more frees from Duignan fouls were converted by Keane. Pat Rohan soon leveled up the game with two sublime points from the left wing. Keane added a further point with Sylvesters converting a long range free. The Sylvesters score looked like the last score of the game but the best was kept til last. A Keane sideline cut was caught by Duignan (below) who buried it to the net. 1-6 to 0-6 at the break.

The second half started with another brilliant Duignan goal. Keane was again the provider but this time he ran 40 yards with the sliotar before feeding Duignan who found the net off his left. Keane soon added another free from the left wing & it looked like their final place was sealed but Sylvesters came back very well with a fine 15 minute spell to level up matters going into the dying minutes.

With our defence under pressure and our forwards backs agains the wall, up stepped Paul Keane with a score that only Joe Canning would attempt. With 3 minutes on the clock, Keane converted a sideline ball 35 yards out from goal on the left wing. It was a brilliant score. Sylvesters came back fighting but couldn't find the score to level it up. John Boyle, Conor Morris & David Brooks would have enough blocks to build a house with the amount of them they got in during the dying minutes.

The lads now face Championship favourites Naomh Barrog in two weeks time. Well done to the management team of Ciaran O'Reilly, Tim O'Leary & Mick O'Sullivan for the tremendous effort bringing the team so far. Lets make the next step.
