U21 Hurlers Come Back from Brink to defeat O'Tooles in Champo 1st Round - Mon, 17 Nov 2008

St Brigids 2-11 O Tooles 1-11

Trailing 1-10 to 0-9 with less than 5 minutes to go, things looked very bleak for the U21 Hurlers. O'Tooles took control of the game from the very first minute and dispute losing a man for an off the ball incident, they led until the death. O'Tooles opened very well scoring the first three points of the game to lead 0-3 to 0-0 after 10 minutes. Aodhan McEnerney settled the nerves with a pointed free but O'Tooles hit back with another point. Jamie Winters pointed to leave two between the sides. An O'Tooles goal which was brilliantly finished to the far right corner left the lads with a big hill to climb. They hit back with the next three scores to keep pace with O'Tooles.

Trailing 1-7 to 0-6 at the break, the lads really had to up their game in all sectors. They had to use the spare man more effeciantly but O'Tooles opened the scoring in the 2nd half. It was very much nip and tuck stuff as O'Tooles replied to all of the Brigids scores. With less than five minutes remaining, a McEnerney point left three points between the sides. The lads piled forward and Dan Brady reacted fastest to a high ball into the O'Tooles back line to smash the sliotar to the net. It looked like the game was there for the winning but O'Tooles replied straight away to lead by one. With their backs against the wall, the lads worked the ball down the left wing to corner forward Pat Rohan who rounded his man to finish the sliotar to the net. Sean Keegan added the insurance point & the great escape was complete.
