Junior A Hurlers Come Back From Dead to Shock St Thomas's in League - Thu, 12 Apr 2007

St Brigids 2-10 St Thomas's 1-11

Our Junior A Hurlers turned in a superb second half fightback to turn round a 7 point deficit at half time to defeat St Thomas's in the Junior A Hurling League. The lads started off well with Tim O'Mahony opening precedings after latching onto a broken ball to fire over. The teams were soon level again but O'Mahony found his range again to fire the lads ahead with a superb sideline free from the left.

Pat Rohan added a further point after beautifully fielding a puckout. With the teams level at 0-3 a piece, St Thomas's edged ahead when a misjudged high ball into the square ended up in the net. St Thomas's added four further points to lead comfortably at the break by 7 points. The lads were hurling well but several missed opportunites were rued. Things would have been alot closer only for this.

The lads started the second half with much more intensity in their play. They soon reduced the St Thomas's deficit by 3 points with Ciaran O'Reilly firing over 2 long range free's and Paul Nyland pouncing on a broken ball in midfield to fire over. St Thomas's were getting edgy and the doubt started to creep in when Willie Bourke found the back of the net after great defensive play from corner forwards Aidan O'Leary and Tim O'Mahony.

With one seperating the teams, the match had a real Championship feel to it. Matters were soon level when Dan Brady lofted over from close range. St Thomas's responded with a free from distance. Willie Bourke then showed well in the full forward line to beat his man with ease and tag on another point off his left. St Thomas's then scored what they thought was the winning score but Aidan O'Leary popped up in the dying seconds to scramble the ball to the net to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Well done to the lads & their never say die attitude.
