Junior A Hurlers Advance to Champo Q-Finals defeating Castleknock In Final Group Game - Wed, 13 Aug 2008
St Brigids 3-9 Castleknock 2-9 Goals from Paul Keane, Pat Rohan & a brilliant long range effort from Sean Duignan sealed a fine win for the Junior Hurlers over Castleknock in the Championship. Playing with a strong gale at their backs in the opening half, goalkeeper Willie Bourke opened the St Brigids account with two long range efforts. Mick Galvin soon chipped in with two points off his left with Castleknock hitting back with a point from Joe O'Callaghan. Brigids soon hit a purple patch with Paul Keane pounching on a Sean Duignan to double the ball to the net. Pat Rohan then added a great individual goal. Pat turning his man, shipping several hard tackles and finishing the ball to the net. Castleknock hit back with a fine goal from their centre forward Paul O'Brien. Conor Morris edged Brigids forward 2-5 to 1-1 before Castleknock hit back with four answered points to leave the score 2-5 to 1-5 at the break. Brigids backs were going to be against the wall defending a three point lead playing into a stiff breeze but the lads really put the shoulder to the wheel. Mick Galvin scored another beautiful point from the left wing and Paul Keane soon extended the lead to five points. Castleknock soon started to panic and began going for goals but Willie Bourke stood tall along with Tommy Phelan, Glen Markey & David Brooks. With less than fifteen minutes left, Castleknock narrowed the margin to three but Sean Duignan stood up and put the game beyond them with a stunning strike from the 20 yard line. A long way from marking DJ Carey in Parnell Pk ten years ago!! Castleknock grabbed a late goal in injury time but the lads thoroughly deserved their win and progress to the Quarter-Finals. |
