Junior Hurlers Go Down Narrowly to Clontarf in Champo Despite Spirited Fightback - Tue, 28 Apr 2009 Despite a spirited late rally, our Junior hurlers just fell short of the line in their second robin round game in the Junior B Hurling Championship against Clontarf on Sunday morning. The lads were slow out of the blocks and gave themselves a mountain to climb as they trailed 1-07 to 0-3 at the break. A fine point from Ciaran O'Reilly and two Brian Mulcahy 65's kept the Brigids men in touch. Mulcahy's accuracy from placed balls continued in the second period as the sides traded scores leaving the deficit 1-11 to 0-06 with 15 minutes remaining. However, in a frantic five minute period, Timmy O'Learys men bagged two excellent goals to reduce the deficit to two points. The first came from full forward Noel Kidd who expertly finished from 14 yards while the second goal arrived just moments later from the boot of substitute Stephen Moore. To their credit Clontarf responded well and smothered the Brigids revival with a well worked team goal. Despite another Noel Kidd goal in injury time which again reduced the margin to two, the home sides? resurgence ran out of time with the game ending 2-11 to 3-06. The lads have three more group games remaining against O'Dwyers, Cuala and Good Counsel and will hope to win all three to make the Championship quarter finals. Well done to the lads and keep up the good work.
