Junior Hurlers Fight Back Against Raheny in League Clash in Russell Pk - Thu, 28 May 2009
St. Brigids 1-12 Raheny 2-7 St.Brigids got back to winning ways today with a win over a very committed Raheny. Team Captain for the day Neil Plunkett decided to play into a strong wind and up the hill in the first half. This decision paid dividedent. Brigids got off to a great start with four points, two from Noel Kidd and one a piece from John Dalton and Brendan Roche. Raheny responded with two long range points of their own. Neil Plunkett decided to get in on the scoring action before Brian Condron rattled the Raheny O?Reilly added a point before the half time interval, leaving it 1-7 to 1-3 in favour of Brigids. Brian Mulcahy(above) got Brigids off to the start they needed, with a well taken point. The defence found itself under siege and were lucky to only concede three points. If not for courageous defending from the full back line of Sean Freyne, Eoin O'Brien and James Cambell Raheny would have scored a lot more. This now only left two between the teams. Brendan Roche eased the pressure with two points from difficult frees. Raheny then responded in typical fashion with a well taken goal. Stephen Moore was sprung from the bench and paid back management?s faith in him by adding a point to the goal he scored against Clontarf in the last round of the championship. Brendan Roche added another point to put some breathing room between the two teams. Raheny ended on a high with a point of their own but this was to be their last score and the lads held out to capture a well worked win. This was a good win for the lads considering the players missing due to exams. This leaves them in a great position for the league with two wins and only one loss.
