Ciaran O'Reilly Saves the Day With 2 Late Points for Junior Hurlers vs Naomh Olaf - Thu, 16 Jul 2009

Naomh Olaf 1-11 St Brigids 2-12

Veteran Ciaran O Reilly came off the bench to score an inspirational 0-02 in the final five minutes to seal victory for our Junior hurlers in their AHL 6 game against Naomh Olaf in Pairc Ui Bhriain on Thursday evening. Following a good opening spell, the Brigids men held a 1-02 to 0-01 lead with Brian Condron finding the Olaf's net early on. Olafs replied with 3 frees before Philly Ryan extended the away sides advantage following a fine near post finish.

However, Ryan's goal sparked Olaf's into life and they reeled off 3 unanswered points before their awkward full-forward bundled a high looping ball to the net leaving the Sandyford men in the ascendancy, 1-07 to 2-03 at the break. After finishing the first half the stronger, Olafs picked up from where they left off with the opening 2 points of the second period. However, Brigids responded in business like fashion and slowly set about dismantling the Olafs lead. Points from Willa Corbett (0-03), Noel Kidd (0-01) and Brendan Roche (0-2) saw a deficit of 2, turn into an advantage of 4 with 10 minutes remaining.

Olaf's reply was measured and although the home side succeeded in reducing the arrears to two, the excellent full back line of Sean Frane, Cian O'Sullivan and the "Bear in the square" James Campbell stood firm. It was then left to vastly experienced O'Reilly to settle the tie and he duly obliged with two excellent long range efforts. Well done to Timmy O'Leary's men who now lie in second place in the AHL 6 table, with promotion still very much a distinct possibility.

St Brigids: Timmy O'Leary, Eoin O'Brien, Sean Frane, Cian O'Sullivan, Mark Hanley, John Hanley, James Campbell, Willa Corrbett (0-03), Mark Kehir, Stephen Moore, Brian Mulcahy (0-02), Brendan Roche (0-02), Brian Condron (1-01), Phillip Ryan (1-01), Noel Kidd (0-01).

Subs: Keith O'Neill for Eoin O'Brien (inj - HT), Ciaran O'Reilly (0-02) for Mark Kehir (inj - 60min).
