St Brigids/Spleodar Irish Club Resumes this Thursday at 7pm in Club Hall

The St Brigids/Spleodar Irish club is resuming this Thursday in the club hall at 7pm. The club was founded last year by Stephen Moore and grew at a steady pace before the summer break in May. The club encourages all teenagers between the ages of 10-17 to speak their native language in a friendly and relaxed environment. The activities of the club include games, concerts, plays and various trips. The only rule of the club is that everyone present speaks Irish all of the time.

The club is run by young trainee teachers and is supervised by qualified teachers. Admission is 3 euro per week and with the Oral Irish exam growing ever more important in both the Junior and Leaving Certificate courses, it is a great opportunity for teenagers to practice their Irish skills! All are welcome!

Is i aidhm Spleodair meas ar an nGaeilge a chruthú i ndéagóirí agus oideachas a thabhairt dóibh i gcomhoibriú agus cinnireacht.

I Spleodar Samhraidh múineann muid Gaeilge ar chúrsaí i nGaeltacht Chonamara ach tá leanúnachas gníomhaíochtaí i gcroílár ghníomhaíochtaí Spleodair chomh maith. Is ar cheann do na imeachtai sin ná "clubanna Spleodar" agus ta club nua ag tosnu I Naomh Brid mi Mhean Fomhair 2008. Beidh an club ar siul gach Deardaoin o a se go dti a hocht sa halla.

Tugann an club nua seo deis do scoláirí a gcuid Gaeilge a úsáid agus a chleachtadh ina gceantar dúchais. Dhá uair a chloig in aghaidh na seachtaine atá i gceist le na clubanna. Bearla - English Version

The aim of Spleodar is to develop an appreciation of Irish in teenagers and educate them in co-operation and leadership skills.

Spleodar Samhraidh teaches Irish on residential courses in the Connemara Gaeltacht, however, follow-up activities are also central to all that we do in Spleodar. These activities begin at the end of the Summer. A Tóstal (re-union) of all our students takes place at the start of September. Spleodar organises activities throughout the year, from September to Easter. One of the central activites is "Spleodar"s clubs and there is a new club beginning in St Brigids GAA club in September 2008.The club will run every Thursday from 6 to 8 in the club hall.

The club give students an opportunity to use and practise their Irish in their hometown. These clubs are held once a week for a period of 2hrs. Activities in our clubs include workshops, art and craft, sport, drama and music. Members of our clubs go on various outings eg. bowling and meals out in local restaurants. This is a great opportunity for our students to use their Irish in various social settings.

Slógadh Spleodair is held in February. This is a chance for the members of all our clubs to meet and catch up with friends they made on our courses. Inter-club competitions are held such as singing, sport, concerts and quizes. If you are interesting in being part of Spleodar's club in St Brigids and improving your spoken Irish please contact Stiofan O Mordha on 0876339238, email stiofanomordha1@hotmail.com or go to the Spleodar website - http://www.spleodar.com/
