Eugene Kennedy in Emerald Masters A Singles Final this Thursday - Tue, 21 Aug 2007

Eugene Kennedy father of Eoin Kennedy the current softball senior singles champion takes on Wicklow?s Richard Willoughby in the Emerald Masters A singles final. Kennedy won his first Masters title back in 1986 will go into the final in buoyant mood, following his success with Portobello's Paddy Murray over Willoughby & Pat Doyle in the Emerald Masters A doubles final last week. Eugene Kennedy already has 16 Leinster handball titles and amassed over 20 All-Ireland handball titles to his credit. Kennedy's preparations have been hampered with a calf muscle injury which has curtailed his training in the run up to the final. Still he accounted for Pat McGovern of Meath impressively winning by 21-9, 21-15 in the quarter finals.

Andy Ryan of Carlow was the next to fall to Kennedy in the semi final. Eugune winning by 21-17, 21-5. Looking forward to the final Kennedy said "he would be hoping for a good serve to get an easy return. That's the secret in handball to try to exploit my opponents weakness on his left hand." The DCU Lecturer in Physics will be hoping to bring his own brand of handball science to the handball court in Garryhill in the search off another provincial title.
