Master of the Alley Eoin Kennedy Claims 5th All-Ireland 60 * 30 Hardball Title - Thu, 11 Jun 2009

Congrats to Eoin Kennedy who claimed his fifth GAA Handball All-Ireland Hardball (60X30) Senior Singles title, when he overcame defending champion, Mayo kingpin, Dessie Keegan (Ballaghaderreen), in a hard-fought final, over two games, at St. Coman's, Roscommon Town, on Saturday. In the first game, Kennedy raced into a 7-0 lead, before Keegan levelled the score at 10-10. The Mayoman pointed five times in succession, to take a 10-15 lead, but the Dubliner then hit a purple patch, hitting an impressive nine consecutive points, to regain the lead at 19-15.

Keegan could only muster one more point, while Kennedy forged ahead, to close out, on a scoreline of 21-16. In the second game, Keegan started brightly, going firstly into a 3-11 and then a 9-14 lead, before Kennedy, once more, produced his dazzling array of skills, allied to his supreme athleticism, as he pointed nine times without reply, to take a 17-14 lead.

Two more successive points on the board, placed the Dubliner into a commanding 19-14 lead, but the hard-hitting Mayoman dug deep, striking three consecutive points, to narrow the gap to 19-17. However, Kennedy was determined not to let the game slip from his grasp, as he pointed twice in-a-row, toclinically seal victory, on a scoreline of 21-17 and regain the crown, he last won in 2007.
