Eoin Kennedy Wins Yet Another All-Ireland Singles Title - King of 60 * 30 - Wed, 23 Jun 2010

Eoin Kennedy confirmed his status as a handball legend when he captured his 2nd All-Ireland hardball crown in a week. Its amazing that year on year Eoin wins All-Ireland titles. We are truly lucky to have such a great club man. Every Wednesday Eoin takes time out from his busy schedule to coach kids in the club.

Defending champion and No. 1 seed, Dublin star, Eoin Kennedy (St. Brigid's, Blanchardstown), successfully retained his GAA All-Ireland Hardball (60X30) Senior Singles title, when he defeated Mayo kingpin, Vinny Moran (Ballaghaderreen), in a hard-fought final, over three games, at Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, yesterday (Saturday 19th June).

Kennedy, who has dominated these championships for most of the last decade, completed an incredible "clean-sweep" of GAA All-Ireland (60X30) titles, in the process. Last weekend, the Dubliner, who is the undisputed master of the large (60X30) court, linked-up with long-term doubles partner, Egin Jensen (Na Fianna, Glasnevin), to claim the Senior Doubles title of these championships and last September, he bagged both the Men's Senior Singles and Men's Senior Doubles crowns of the GAA All-Ireland Softball (60X30) Championships.

In the first game, the score was level at 5-5, before Kennedy hit his stride and forged ahead into a commanding 15-5 lead. Moran could only muster one more point, as Kennedy began to display his full array of lethal kill shots and silken passing shots, allied to his trademark "rocket-like" serve, as he blitzed through, pointing six times in succession, to close out, on an emphatic scoreline of 21-6.

The second game began in similar fashion, as Kennedy forged ahead, into a commanding lead of 10-5. However, this time, Moran dug-deep and began to produce his own armoury of pinpoint kill shots and smooth passing shots, allied to some explosive serving and stormed ahead into a narrow 10-12 lead. Kennedy levelled the score at 12-12, but Moran was unfazed and hit a purple patch, pointing eight consecutive times, to take a commanding lead of 12-20. The Dubliner narrowed the gap, to make it 14-20, but the Mayoman polished-off with a stinging kill shot, to close out, on a impressive scoreline of 14-21.

In the third game, Kennedy began explosively, racing into a commanding 11-0 lead, before Moran hit five consecutive points, to make it 11-5. Kennedy replied in kind, with five successive points, to widen the gap to 16-5, before Moran pointed three consecutive times, to make it 16-8. The Dubliner showed "true grit", as he edged ahead into a 20-8 lead, as Moran pointed once to make it 20-9. But that was as close as he got, as Kennedy unleashed a rasping kill shot, to seal victory and his sixth title in eight years, on a decisive scoreline of 21-9.
