 Andrews & O'Dea Impress Further for Dublin Minors

Dublin 6-10 Meath 0-4

Dublin's minor footballers routed Meath by 24 points in Saturday's Leinster MFL at St Clare?s, DCU. The game was over as a contest by the half-time break as despite playing into the wind John Horan?s side played all the football and led 5-4 to 0-1 at the break.

Dublin's speed and intelligence of movement up front coupled with strong defensive displays from the likes of Shane Byrne, Kevin Nolan and Alan Hubbard left the Royals in their wake by the interval. Dermot Connolly got Dublin's opening goal in the third minute from the penalty spot after Russell Cleere had been fouled following good approach play by Paddy Andrews.

Two goals inside a minute before the midpoint of the opening half had the Dubs nine points in front by the 13th minute. Andrews won the ball out of defence fed the hard-working Shane O'Rorke whose diagonal aerial ball was fisted back across the face of the goal from where Cillian O'Dea applied the finish.

Less than a minute later a superb pass from Connolly unlocked the Meath defence and Andrews fired to the net. With five minutes remaining in the first half wing-forward Martin Daly scrambled the ball to the net at the second time of asking after good combination play from Darren Daly, Martin Daly and Andrews. To round off the first half in style Martin Daly scored his second goal after an excellent foot pass from Cleere found Andrews.

Not surprisingly Dublin failed to keep up the heights they had reached in the opening 30 minutes and were guilty of some wasteful play. However, Connolly did find the Meath net for a sixth time when Connolly showed fine soccer skills to keep the ball on the deck and find the corner of the net from 20 metres.
