A comprehensive victory for Brigid's over neighbours Plunkett?s was the outcome of this U16 Championship game played in a damp Russell Park last Saturday.

In truth St Brigid's made hard work of the match as they had the better in all areas of play. The first half in particular was played at a pedestrian pace despite starting with a cracking goal in the first few seconds of play from Philip Carroll.

Plunkett's fought back bravely and it took a superb save from Jamie Winters to deny them a comeback goal. Some fine forward play from Jack Chambers who is returning to form and a good display in the centre from Cian Mullins and Sean Murray steadied the Brigid's ship.

For the rest of the opening half 3 point from Conor Brennan who had an excellent day and a point from Carroll just before the interval was the lot for Brigid's. A single point from Plunketts in reply saw them go in 1-4 to 0-1 behind at the interval.

The second half was a little livelier. Brigid's started to settle down and the scores began to mount up. Conor Kavanagh, Sean Murray (2) and Eoin O Brien (3) got on the score sheet and Philip Carroll added a brace to ensure a comfortable win for Brigid's

Daire Plunkett and Eoin O Brien worked well off each other throughout and two long runs from Philip Carroll led to excellent points. In defence, despite having a quiet day at the office Ryan McEnerin, Alan McCarrick and Alan Waters repelled several attempts from Plunketts who scored their only point of the half early on.

This was the last game in the round robin stage of the U16 championship and it's on to the quarter-finals now where it will surely get a whole lot tougher.
