Paddy Andrews turns in Superb Display for Dublin Minor's Victory over Westmeath - Sun, 14 May 2006 Congrats to Paddy Andrews who turned in a superb display for the Dublin Minors. Paddy captained the Dubs to their opening round victory over Leinster favourites Westmeath. He most definitely led by example notching up 1-4. Well done from all in St Brigids. Report from www.hill16.ie Dublin 1-11 Westmeath 0-11 Paddy Andrews was the hero for the Dublin minor footballers as they recovered from a slow start to defeat Westmeath in Saturday's Leinster MFC quarter-final in Cusack Park, Mullingar. The midlanders led 0-4 to 0-1 after 14 minutes before Dublin began to find some rhythm and reeled off 1-3 without reply inside the next ten minutes to lead 1-4 to 0-4. The goal came from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute when Andrews finished confidently to the net after Cian O'Sullivan, who had been well placed inside the Westmeath cover by Liam O'Donovan, was upended. The introduction of Westmeath sub John Connellan livened up the hosts attack and he pointed two frees before Paddy O'Connor replied with a free for the Dubs just before halt-time for Dublin to lead 1-4 to 0-6 at the break. The home side almost had a goal for the own in the 26th minute but Brendan Kelly's shot flashed just outside Joe Mooney's post after being well placed by Connellan. Dublin also had a trump card up their sleeves as Barry O'Rorke entered the fray early in the second half. The Kilmacud Crokes forward played a crucial role in the victory with three points. At the back Dublin mixed the good with the bad with Johnny Cooper emerging as their best defender while around the middle of the park Westmeath were more tenacious to the breaking ball. With ten minutes to play Westmeath had drawn level, 1-7 to 0-10, and looked well positioned to strike. However, O'Rorke fired over following good work by Andrews and Andrews himself put two points between the sides after a great dispossession by sub Ted Furman. While Dublin could never relax they kept Westmeath at bay with an O'Connor free and O'Rorke point from play seeing them into the semi-final where they will meet Offaly on July 5. Scorers - Dublin: P Andrews 1-4 (1-0 pen), B O'Rorke, P O'Connor (0-3f) 0-3 each, C Morley 0-1. Westmeath: J Connellan 0-5 (0-5f), C Reilly, C Lynam (0-1f) 0-2 each, A Whitney, N Kilcoyne 0-1 each.
