Gerry McEntee leads Dublin U16 Footballers to Gerry Reilly Memorial Tournament - Thu, 3 Aug 2006

Congrats to Gerry McEntee who led the Dublin U16 Footballers to victory in the Gerry Reilly Memorial Tournament. Philip Carroll & Alan McCarrick also lined out for the Dubs & played with some aplomb.

Dublin were crowned Gerry Reilly Memorial under-16 Inter-County Football Tournament winners for the third time on Sunday evening. The Dubs defeated Westmeath 4-13 to 1-8 in the decider in Gilson Park, Oldcaste, Meath.

Man-of-the-match Ciaran Dorney (St Vincent's) rocked Westmeath with two goals inside the opening five minutes and by the midpoint of the opening half Dublin had a 3-4 to 0-2 advantage. Full-forward Philip Caroll (St Brigid's) grabbed the third goal and before the interval Dean Rock (Ballymun Kickhams), son of the legendary Barney, hit the fourth goal as the boys in blue led 4-7 to 1-6 at half-time.

Mark Coughlan (Kilmacud Crokes) was the dominant at midfield while his club-mate David Higgins was clinical from placed balls. Others to impress for the Dubs were full-back Alan McCarrick (St Brigid's) and goalkeeper Graham Bedford (Erins Isle) carried out his duties to good effect.

The tournament, in its 18th season, is run on a "round robin" basis, each team plays each other - the two top teams play in the final. Four counties participated this year - Cavan, Westmeath, Dublin and Meath

Scorers - Dublin: C Dorney 2-1, D Higgins 0-6 (0-6f), P Carroll 1-2, D Rock 1-1, D Hopkins 0-2, D Moher 0-1.

Dublin - G Bedford; D Aherne, A McCarrick, F Clabby; T Lyons, E Culligan, J McCarthy; D Moher, M Coughlan; L Siwale, D Rock, D Higgins; C Dorney, P Carroll, D Hopkins.

Subs: A Browning for Siwale, S Sutton for Rock, B Logan for Higgins, S Gibbons for Carroll, R Walsh for Hopkins.
