Minor Footballers Open Champo Defence with Thrilling Win Over St Vincents - Mon, 22 Sep 2008

St Brigids 2-10 St Vincents 1-12

A stunning second half strike from Paul Clerkin(above) goal turned the tide in this thrilling Championship game. Clerkin broke in from the left wing and rifled the ball to the roof of the net. The lead changed several times as Vincents played with alot of confidence from their U16 Championship win last year. The opened very well leading 0-4 to 0-0 after ten minutes. Philip Carroll opened the St Brigids account but Vincents soon responded with two more points to lead 0-6 to 0-1 after fifteen minutes.

St Brigids then rallied and scored a goal after Cian Mullins drove through the Vincents defence and fed O'Dea who fired to the net. O'Dea soon added another point as Brigids put the pressure on.Mullins added another score to level up matters and Philip Carroll added another long distance free to leave the lads 1-4 to 0-6 up at the break.

Vincents opened the second half in fine style. The scored the opening four points of the half to lead by three. Brigids were slow to get going but Cathal Doyle and Alan McCarrick soon started driving forward from defence and the scores soon started coming.

Cian Mullins, Gavin McIntyre added scores before Paul Clerkin found the net to leave the lads two points up. Vincents responded with their own goal  to lead by one and soon added a point to lead by two but Brigids finished the stronger with two Carroll points and the winner struck over by O'Dea. Well done to the lads who now face Kilmacud Crokes next Sunday at 11am in Silver Pk.
