A game of real heart and none stop pressure ensured our Minor Footballers are through to the Championship Semi-Finals. Philip Ryan & Colm Carr were the chief scorers. Ryan sealing the game with 2 calmly taken goals. Playing against the wind in the opening half, Slys started the better leading 0-3 to 0-1. Our lads dug deep and were soon level as Ryan was constantly dragged down when in possession. Our back were doing a great job as Slys were limited to long distance shooting and their dangerman Sweeney rarely got a run as Michael Gately aka "Meatsie"(above) never gave up and constantly pressurised their star man. Jack Kelly was always in his man's face. Slys tried 3 different men on him. Level at the break, 0-4 tp 0-4, things could have been so different as Collie Carr's goal bound shot rebounded off the inside of the post.

With the wind was at our backs in the 2nd half, we started brightly scoring the opening 3 points through Ryan, Kevin Twomey and the work horse Jerry Troy. Slys were under pressure from that point on as their goal chances were very limited. Slys kept working away and were within 1 (0-7 to 0-6) with less than 15 minutes remaining but the lads kept their workrate up and finished the game stronger. Ryan sealed the game with 2 great finishes to kill off the Slys challenge.

All the hard work has paid off for this team. They resided in Div 3 at U16. and when the draw was made for the Minor Championship, we were paired with Kilmacud Crokes, Ballyboden & St Sylvesters in our group. We were the rank outsiders. Two wins against Kilmacud Crokes & St Sylvesters in the opening round robin ensures our Minors are through to the Champo Semi-Finals. A team of real heart & determination. The management team have done a brilliant job with this team.
