U16 Footballers Just Come Up Short Against Parnells in Sheild Final - Thu, 27 May 2010

St Brigids 2-3 Parnells 1-13

Parnells proved too strong for St Brigids in the U16 Football B Championship Plate Final played on Saturday 22nd May 2010 at Coolock. The home side a division ahead of the Brigids lads put in a storming opening half to take a decisive lead which simply left Brigids with too much to do in an evenly contested second half.

The game, played in glorious sunshine, started cautiously and it was the home side who registered the first score. Brigids responded well, however, and created a great goal chance. They failed to convert and it was too prove costly. Parnells midfield pairing began to dominate, setting up a platform for their forwards, which allowed them to gradually ease ever further ahead. It took Brigids 20 minutes to register their first, and only score of the half, with O'Reilly finishing off a fine passing move. Parnells, though, responded with a goal and a couple more points. By half time, the scoreboard was ominous, with the home side 1-9 to 0-1 ahead.

The second half was a different affair as the Russell Park outfit finally started to play with pride and passion. The introduction of substitutes Rogers and McAnerin livened up the visitors. Henry and Somani, in particular, started to drive forward from half back and O'Sullivan's roving role was proving a handful. After an early Rogers point, Brigids were awarded a penalty, which O'Reilly calmly converted. Although Parnells responded with a couple of points, a McAnerin score narrowed the gap further. Parnells dug deep however and managed to withstand heavy Brigids pressure. Five minutes from time, Cahill found the net, not long after his introduction as a substitute. It was to be the games last score.
