Round Up of U14A Footballers Group Games on Saturday in Kiltipper Rd - Tue, 8 May 2012
St Brigids 2-6 Ballyboden St Enda's 0-1 Photos from Boden Match | Photos from Davis Match The opening game of the Feile is so important and a winning start is crucial. The lads were definitely nervous on both sides as the opening half was an extremely tight affair. Boden opened the scoring with a pointed free and this was their only score of the game. Brigids didn't register this first score until the 13rd minute courtesy of Mark Donnelly. Johnny McGuirk soon had the ball in the net leave the lads leading 1-1 to 0-1 at the break.
The 2nd half was way more open as the lads began to play and opened up a six point gap by the 8th minute of the 2nd half. The defensive play was also immense holding Boden scoreless. The all important opening win was secured. St Brigids 0-11 Thomas Davs 2-1 Playing the group hosts was always going to be tough. They had met each other 2 weeks previously in the league with both sides playing cat & mouse on player selection. The lads were quick out of the blocks building up a 0-6 to 0-0 lead with 16 minutes. Only for the Davis goalkeeper making five brilliant saves, the margin could have been alot wider.
Leading comfortably at the break, the lads took their foot off the gas and soon Davis had 1-1 on the board to reduce the deficit to two. Brigids responded with further points to stretch the lead to 0-8 to 1-1 before Davis scored from a rebounded penalty off the post. The lads character was sure to be tested leading 0-8 to 1-1 but they responded with the next 3 points to win 0-11 to 2-1. This game thought the lads to keep the foot on the peedle when leading. St Brigids 2-11 Ballinteer St Johns 1-1 With their semi-final spot secured, the lads surprisingly faced Ballinteer for top spot. This was not a game to be taken lightly. Johns had already beaten Boden and drew with Davis so were playing well. The lads keep a high tempo and secured top spot with a great display. They also had the added bonus of being able to rest several players.
