U12 Hurlers Win Camaint Title in Parnell Pk defeating Na Fianna - Wed, 6 Sep 2006

St. Brigids 4-4 Na Fianna 1-0

From the first whistle, Na Fianna were pegged back into their own half as they struggled to deal with the intensity of the boys from Russell Park. An early point from Paul Winters - quickly followed by a goal from Aaron Carolan - helped to settle Brigids. McDonnell and Kavanagh were excellent at midfield and on the rare occassions when the ball did get past them, it was ably dealt with by the Brigids backs. As the first half progressed, Brigids superiority was reflected on the scoreboard with another goal from Kieran O'Sullivan, and a further Winters point.

After the break, Brigids were determined not to let the Mobhi Road outfit back into the match. Driven on by Winters and Ciaran Gaule, Brigids continued to give the Na Fianna backs a torrid afternoon. Another goal from Carolan - brilliantly set up by Luke Ryan - was followed by a brace of points from Winters. Then, with 5 minutes to go, Na Fianna finally made a breakthrough and pulled a goal back. Any chance of a dramatic comeback, however, was quickly dashed by a further goal for Brigids, scored by O'Sullivan. The Brigids boys then comfortably saw out the closing minutes and greeted the final whistle with much excitement.

Brigids mentors Paddy Winters, Mick O'Sullivan and Gerry Greville were delighted with their team's display. "This win is reward for the huge effort put in by these boys over the past year", Paddy said.

Captain Luke Ryan then proudly led his team up the steps to be presented with the Division 1 trophy.
